John Ehinger

John brings decades of insurance, risk management, and operational experience to bear for Orion’s clients. Before joining Orion, John was the Principal of John Ehinger Advisory, a boutique firm providing independent consultative services for Insurers, MGAs/MGUs, and Retail Insurance Agencies.

Prior to his consultancy, John served as CEO of LIO Insurance, where he led the team that started and grew a specialist property & casualty carrier from scratch in less than twelve months.

Before joining LIO, John served as Head of Global Operations for Guy Carpenter, one of the world’s leading reinsurance intermediaries. At Guy Carpenter, John was a member of the Executive Committee and led the firm’s Operating Committee. John was charged with overseeing the company’s functions, including driving major change programs in the company’s premium / claims processing and technology areas. John also spearheaded the evolution of Guy Carpenter’s global sales strategies, processes, and tools.

Previously, John was the Global Chief Operating Officer of Willis Re. During his 12 years at Willis Re, he also served as President of its North American entity and Sales Leader for the Northeastern United States.

Prior to Willis Re, John was a broker at Sedgwick Re, where he managed several large client accounts and posted a successful track record of new business generation. John entered the insurance sector in 1993 with Seltzer, Serra & Bonnett, a Philadelphia-based retail insurance brokerage.

John has also served as CEO of CardioReady, a company providing services to improve safety and compliance related to automated external defibrillators.

John holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, an MBA with honors in Finance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, and CPCU and ARe designations from The Institutes. John has also served on the boards of the Broker and Reinsurer Market Association, Council of Reinsurers and Brokers of the Reinsurance Association of America, Parent Heart Watch, and the Pennsylvania / Delaware Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.

John resides outside of Philadelphia and is the proud parent of two athletic boys.
